The Last Time We Met ‘Em: Hamilton Accies

By: Ian Rose | August 15th, 2008

Each week, in addition to (or sometimes, on 99-degree days in a city that shouldn’t have 99-degree days, in lieu of) a match preview, I’ll take a look at Caley’s last matchup with the team we’re facing. In most cases, it will harken back to last season, or even earlier in the same season. In the case of the newly promoted Hamilton Academical, we have to go back all the way to February 22, 2003, when the Caley hosted the Accies (no laughing in the back) in a Scottish Cup match. The result:

6-1 to the Caley.

After Hamilton’s shock win over Dundee United last weekend, we aren’t expecting this kind of result again – that much is clear. But with newboy Andy Barrowman on scoring form, and the lads riding high from the opening win at no-longer-cursed Pittodrie, we have reason to be confident. This year was only the second of our five in the top flight that started with a win. In 2005-06, we started on a 2-0 win over Falkirk, and followed it up with a 1-0 loss to Rangers.

Can the Caley go 2-0 to start an SPL season for the first time since promotion? I believe we can.

Ian – great to see this blog going. BTW…nice to see Andy Barrowman do well last week and I think he’ll do great with Craig Brewster.

Yeah, Andy’s a real hope for some goals for us this season. We’re going to miss Niculae, even though Marius missed a few sitters himself. Hopefully he’ll settle into top flight football within a month or so and we can avoid the seemingly annual bad Caley start.
