Single digits. Caley 2-1 St. Mirren
By: Ian Rose | April 4th, 2009For the first time in months, Caley Thistle has some breathing room (though admittedly not a lot) in the race for SPL survival. By beating the Buddies today in Inverness, we move above them in the table (albeit with a game in hand for St. Mirren). We also move above free-falling Kilmarnock, who went down 3-1 to Heartski today.
That puts us in ninth. 9th. A single digit. It has to be about September since the last time that happened.
And for that placement, we can thank one Filipe Morais. He knocked in both the goals, and when he’s healthy, it really does look like we have a pretty clinical finisher, which is something we’ve lacked for a long time. Also congrats to Mikey Fraser for a winning return to the goalkeeper position. But without taking anything away from Fraser, it was a pretty good day to be a Caley keeper. St. Mirren only managed five shots (to Caley’s twelve) and only three on target (to our five). Yes, I can do the math – our accuracy is still awful – but we solved that with three words: volume, volume, volume.
Well done, boys. There are three teams on fewer points than the Caley now, and we’re four points up (one more game played) on Falkirk. Luckily, that game in hand of theirs is hosting Rangers, who despite their recent scandals, is still a far better team than the last-place Bairns.
Mon the Caley.
