Needed: One Miracle
By: Ian Rose | January 3rd, 2009Well today sucked. Caley didn’t play, so I had no reason to wake up early. That part was actuall pretty great. The rest, not so much. Hamilton beat Aberdeen (welcoming back our Dons blogger), and Falkirk got themselves a point. That means, at long last, Inverness Caledonian Thistle Football Club is last in the SPL, and in the lone relegation spot.
As if things weren’t dire enough in the Highlands, tomorrow we welcome Rangers to town. Trailing Celtic by eight points, they have a great chance to make it five with Celtic’s draw with the ridiculously-in-form Dundee United today. They have everything to play for. Our last meeting, at Ibrox, they tied our record for worst loss ever, spanking us 5-0. And frankly, we were playing a lot better back then.
Barring three Rangers red cards (not impossible) or some sort of act of god, we are going to end this week in last place, with Falkirk up basically two points on us because of goal difference. The threat of relegation is getting more solid, more real, by the week now, and the emergency meeting being called by the Supporters Trust this week is a sign that Craig Brewster is losing his tenuous hold on the reins in Inverness. Maybe it is time for a change. I don’t know. I just don’t know. I’ve never seen my beloved club go down a level, and although realistically I know that it’s part of supporting a smaller team, I don’t think I’m ready for it. So if a new manager will do the trick, then that’s what needs to happen.
A quick side note – with the growing frustration of Caley fans, and the always-classy Rangers away support out in force, tomorrow could be a bit dicey for the security boys. Let’s try to keep it civil.

Tomorrow would be a good day to get out this funk for Caley…

Indeed, Matt. It would have been. But, it wasn’t.
