Let’s get it out of the way: Celtic v. Caley Preview
By: Ian Rose | November 28th, 2008Tomorrow, the Caley Thistle travel to the unfriendly confines of Celtic Park. For casual followers of Scottish football, the Caley-and-Celtic fixture might bring up Cup memories (yes, Matt, I had to mention it.), but the truth is that our league meetings, especially in Glasgow, have been much less competitive.
Since our promotion to the top flight, we have gone to Celtic Park six times in SPL play. Six matches. Wins? None. Draws? None. Goal differential? -14. This is the only park in the league that Caley have never gotten a league result in, and coming off of their loss to Aalborg that ended not only their run in Europe but that of Scottish teams overall, Celtic won’t be looking to break that streak. Oh, and there’s that other streak too. Eleven straight league wins for the Celts.
I rarely predict Caley losses. When I predict a result, I want to be right, and I can’t bring myself to wish, even in the most abstract sense, for my beloved club to lose. But, a loss is what I’m predicting in this one. We will break the Celtic Park hoodoo in an SPL match at some point … but this isn’t going to be the day. Last season, we set a then-record for our worst league loss ever, a 5-0 drubbing, right here at Celtic Park. We’ve since repeated that result across town at Ibrox.
I’d love to see a draw, or of course a win, but what I expect to see is a respectable loss. 2-1 to the Celts, who now have no European excuses, and can concentrate on doing what they’ve done for months now – dominating the SPL.

I expect a close match. Celtic still have loads of injuries and have been playing St Mirren, the Accies, and others the last few games close. With the let down of Tuesday, I echo your 2-1 prediction.
Every time you mention that cup game, I will make the sarcastic comment of “Hey, remember that one time we beat Celtic in the cup?”

I always liked your team’s name so…”gosupercaley” is the exact name of my fantasy football (US “football”) team and I’m 11-1 and killing my league. Winner will get about 3K!! And I am poor and need it.
GOSUPERCALEY!!

Not to pick nits, Matt, but I remember those TWO times we beat you in the cup. I’m just saying. Hated to see you go out this week – I thought you’d have a decent shot at going far in UEFA Cup.
And darius, good to see the caley brand infecting fantasy pigskin. Thanks for the comment.
