I was a bit slack this week, as Caley made it three out of the last four in terms of quarterfinal appearances in the League Cup. It’s been a busy week for me personally, but I wanted to take a quick look at what the other, less distracted, football watchers out there were saying about the match.

“Credit to Craig [Brewster] – He came away with the result he wanted, but I think we pushed them.”
- Greenock Morton manager Davie Irons, after Caley beat his side 2-1.

“If you don’t throw balls in to decent areas, you’re never gonna score. And we never really looked like it, first-half.”
- Brewster himself, proving he shares my opinion of Caley’s first-half crossing.

“The side renowned for cup shocks could so easily have been on the receiving end against a determined Morton in a thrilling tie.”
- William Dick, The Scotsman

“It was a major relief for the Highland club famed for twice knocking Celtic out of the Scottish Cup.”
- Chris Roberts, The Daily Record, continuing on the same theme.

“… the Highlanders, despite good movement off the ball, were unable to find a cutting edge.”
- William Dick again, this time for the Greenock Telegraph. Double dipping, are we, mate?

“Certainly, ICT fans will be asking questions about the performance and if it wasn’t for a great strike from Dougie Imrie with less than ten minutes left the questions could have been far more marked than they will after the win.”
- ICTChris, Caley Thistle Online

What the newspaper men are saying after Caley’s draw with Hibs this weekend:

“Inverness may not be everyone’s fancies, in fact they may be more fancied by most to be involved in a relegation scrap this term, but on their day they are more than capable of producing some refreshing and winning football.”
- The Scotsman

“The slickness of the passing from the visitors was impressive, if less direct than that of their opponents, whose route to goal was more purposeful.”
- The Sunday Herald

“The home side took the game to Hibs with Andrew Barrowman and Adam Rooney looking lively.”
- BBC

“Colin Nish wrote his own little piece of history as he claimed Hibs first ever goal at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium – but the Edinburgh club left Inverness having failed to win in the Capital of the Highlands for the sixth time in succession as they were forced to settle for a draw.”
- Edinburgh Evening News

“Colin Nish netted Hibs’ first ever goal in Inverness immediately after the restart when he beat the offside trap.”

A look at what the pundits and bloggers around the web are saying about last weekend’s loss to Hamilton:

“Chances were missed at both ends. But, with two 4-5-1 formations, the teams seemed to cancel each other out … Caley Thistle new boy Adam Rooney was impressive after he came on at half-time, but he could not find an equaliser.”
- BBC

“CRAIG BREWSTER last night hailed Jamie Duff’s stunning debut – despite the kid stopper’s blunder that handed high-flying Accies victory … Caley boss Brew was furious with his side’s performance but refused to blame youngster Duff who was excellent for long spells.”
- The Sunday Mail

“Attacks were at a premium despite Rooney making it a two-pronged attack alongside Barrowman.”
- Football.co.uk

“If Caley Thistle had thought they could show the new boys a thing or two they were sadly misguided as the men from Lanarkshire were hugely impressive.”
- Aberdeen Press and Journal

“A Richard Offiong goal just before half time gave new boys Hamilton their second win of the season in a game which promised little and delivered even less.”
