Inverness gives Ugandan a Chance
By: Ian Rose | August 21st, 2008Dan Wagaluka has come over 7000 km to play for Caley Thistle, and Craig Brewster thinks that merits giving him a shot. The Ugandan winger has impressed in his week of training with the team, and played the last 12 minutes of the testimonial match this week against the Liverpool reserves. Brew’s main question seems to be if he can handle the physical nature of Scottish football, but the boss had praise for him this week, saying “Dan understands the game and can play. He is an exciting player who puts a smile on people’s faces.”
Meanwhile, another new face in Inverness is setting a lofty goal for himself. Adam Rooney, who has had impressive runs of play but no goals yet for Caley, wants to play himself onto the Republic of Ireland national side by the time World Cup 2010 comes around. As a Scotland fan, my eyes will be elsewhere on most qualifying dates, but if national team ambitions are what motivate Adam, then I’m all for it. Remember, we did well last season with a striker trying to make his national side for a major tournament. Besides, I was so proud to see Marius take the pitch for Romania at the Euros and represent Caley in a major tournament for the first time ever — a Caley player in the World Cup would be that much sweeter.
